Mama Sandy Caggiano Fund Established in Memory of Teacher to Benefit Students and Families
October 16, 2015 - Sandy Caggiano was a devoted teacher who worked in the Bristol School system for 30 years. She truly cared about her students and their families and was affectionately known as “Mama” to those close to her. After a courageous battle with cancer, Sandy passed away on April 20, 2010. To honor her memory and all that she cared about, the family of Sandy Caggiano has recently established the Mama Sandy Caggiano Fund at Main Street Community Foundation to support the Family Resource Center at South Side School.
“When our family was trying to decide how best to honor Sandy, it made sense to give back to the schools,” said Sandy’s husband “Papa” Joseph Caggiano. Sandy’s youngest of four children, Lisa Galske, a PE teacher at South Side school, added, “When my mom first began working in the Bristol school system, it was as a remedial reading teacher through the Title One program at South Side School. I work at South Side School now, and I see the good the Family Resource Center continues to do to help families in the community.”
“This community meant so much to her, it only makes sense to give back in her memory,” added Jeffrey Caggiano, Sandy’s third child.
The Fund will provide an annual grant to the Family Resource Center at South Side School located in Bristol to support children and families serviced by this program.
The family is planning a 75th Birthday Celebration in July of 2016 in memory of Sandy to benefit the Fund. To donate to the Mama Sandy Caggiano Fund, click here.
