One Resident’s Legacy Benefits Music-Loving Students
November 15, 2014 -When Dante (Dan) Dominic Cistulli II passed away suddenly in 2004, his family thought about what his legacy would be and how his memory could inspire and help others. Dan had a lifelong commitment to music so it was natural that his family establish the Dan Cistulli Memorial Music Fund at Main Street Community Foundation to support Bristol students in need of financial assistance purchase musical instruments and/or music lessons.
National Philanthropy Day, November 15, 2014, is a day to recognize and pay tribute to the great contributions that philanthropy—and those active in the philanthropic community, like the Cistulli family —have made to our lives and our communities.
Because of the Cistulli family’s commitment to philanthropy, 10 students were able to follow their dreams and pursue their passion for music with $1,500 in awards from the Fund in 2014.
"The Cistulli family is thrilled to be able to help these students with their musical endeavors,” stated John Cistulli, Dan’s brother. “Our brother (son, father, husband) Dan would be very pleased to know his love of music is being carried on by these young musicians.”
The students, who attend various public elementary and middle schools in Bristol, each received six instrumental or voice lessons this past summer and fall. Two of the students received clarinet lessons, two received trombone lessons, one received tuba lessons, two received flute lessons and three received voice lessons.
“Music provides me with comfort, confidence, determination and positivity. It has impacted the way I act physically and mentally. Music has given me the confidence to challenge my mind and the responsibility to always try my best,” stated one of the students who plays the flute. “Music has changed my life; I now have something to look forward to. It’s the only thing that allows me to be myself without worrying about anything or anyone else,” stated one of the clarinet players.
“The Dan Cistulli Memorial Music Fund not only provides dedicated and deserving music students the opportunity to further their education and ability, but it also continues Dan’s legacy of helping students in need,” said Susan Sadecki, President & CEO of Main Street Community Foundation. “These small grants will leave a mark on the students’ lives, and the community, for many years to come.”
“We are grateful and very appreciative of the Main Street Community Foundation and all those who have made donations in memory of Dante,” stated John Cistulli.
“The music will never leave me,” stated the trombone player.
