Joann Galati established this scholarship fund in 2019 to continue her love of working with children and young adults and celebrate her joy of teaching. This scholarship will provide annual assistance to graduating seniors or graduates of Bristol Central High School or Bristol Eastern High School pursuing post-secondary education at a four-year college or university with a major in education. Joann wants to give students the opportunity to pursue a career in a field that gave her so much joy. A Southington resident, Joann spent 35 years in education before retiring in 1999.

This scholarship fund was established by members of the Walsh family and transferred to the Main Street Community Foundation in 2011. In 2020 the scholarship fund was rededicated to also honor the memory of her husband John (Jack). It will provide financial assistance to graduating high school seniors at Bristol Central High School or Bristol Eastern High School pursuing post secondary education at a four-year college or university.

This fund was established by friends and family as a loving tribute to Mrs. Lazorik in 1980 following her death; it was then renamed in 2015 following the death of Doris' husband John. The Fund was transferred to Main Street Community Foundation in 1997 and is open to high school seniors from any of the three Bristol high schools to assist them with first year college expenses.

Transferred to the Community Foundation from Terryville High School in 2004, this fund assists a graduating senior who is in financial need and is interested in post-secondary education at a two or four-year school.

Established in 2001 by John Whitcomb’s wife Marian and his children, this fund honors his dedication to a lifetime in the teaching profession, as well as his deep concern for all of his students and his belief in the value and self worth of each individual. Open to graduating seniors and past graduates of Bristol Eastern High School with an interest in social studies and/or education and with consideration to an individual with potential who may be struggling to overcome difficulties.

Established in 2014, this Fund honors the memory of Julie A. Roche who passed away in December 2013 after a long and courageous battle with leukemia. Julie became a nurse in 1987 and spent her nursing career at Bristol Hospital. A scholarship will be awarded annually to a student currently enrolled in a two-year or four-year college with a major in nursing. Applicants must have a passion for the nursing field and must demonstrate leadership skills along with good character and citizenship.

The Bristol Tramps Sports Reunion is an organization that recognizes local athletes, coaches, teams, and supporters of athletics in Bristol. It all started in 1970 with Julie Larese whose love for Bristol and sports established this organization to recognize local sports figures. Julie was a philanthropist, humanitarian, and friend who gave his all to those around him and to the City of Bristol. He was known as “the big guy” who, although he looked like a giant, had a heart of gold.

Susan Kalt Moreau, Ph.D., former Superintendent for the Bristol Public Schools, created the Kalt Moreau Family Scholarship Fund together with her family to pay it forward in recognition of what others did for her. This scholarship fund will help to further the post-secondary educational goals for women graduating seniors from Bristol Central High School or Bristol Eastern High School pursuing a career in education. The scholarship will be awarded annually on a rotating schedule between the two high schools.

 

Established by Burlington residents Karen and Robert Finder in 2003 to support a graduating senior of Hartford’s Sport & Medical Sciences Academy who is planning to attend a two or four year college. Karen was one of the founders, and the first principal, of this Connecticut magnet school.

This scholarship fund honors the memory of Katherine Elizabeth Dobroczynski who passed away unexpectedly in 2013. Established in 2014 by co-workers of Katherine’s mother, Christina Dobroczynski, the first scholarship was awarded in the Spring of 2021, the year Katherine would have graduated from high school. An annual scholarship will be available to graduating high school seniors attending Southington High School with preference given to members of the Southington YMCA.

This scholarship fund was established by the daughter of Kathryn Onofrio Sharr as a loving tribute to her mother and to help those as she was helped. Kathryn, a 1938 graduate of Bristol High and the third oldest of six children, lost both her parents by the time she was 16. Despite these losses, she managed to graduate in the top 10 percent of her class and received a scholarship anonymously, enabling her to pursue her chosen profession. Her family wishes to honor her memory by making the same opportunity available to deserving graduates of Bristol’s high schools.

Established by an anonymous donor through an unexpected and generous bequest, the KAWFY Memorial Scholarship Fund will help residents of Southington who are pursuing post-secondary education. Some preference given to students who have a career interest in becoming an author.

Established in 2008 from the estate of Mark J. Keating, this permanent scholarship fund will benefit students attending St. Joseph School in Bristol. Mr. Keating, who, in his will, established the scholarship fund was a proud alumnus of St. Joseph School who valued the benefit of his education obtained at the now 106-year old Catholic elementary school. Mark was devoted to his family and community. He was an unassuming man who left a legacy that encourages faith, family and community service for deserving youth for years to come.

This fund was established to honor the memory of Kristen Warner who died in a tragic automobile accident in 2004 at the young age of thirteen. Scholarships are awarded to graduating seniors from Southington High School.

This memorial scholarship fund was established by Heidi DellaBianca in 2010 to honor her late husband’s wish to encourage people working at least part-time to pursue post-secondary education. Eligible applicants may be graduating seniors or graduates of Farmington High School currently enrolled in a post-secondary 2-year, 4-year or technical school.

Established in 1997 by former local residents Peter and Lena Korotie to do something special to help children in Bristol. The award is given to students who are attending or will attend St. Paul Catholic High School in Bristol.

The family of Louis Rascoe established this fund on the occasion of his retirement from the field of education where he spent 27 years in the Plymouth Public School System. An annual scholarship is awarded to a student from Plymouth entering the field of education

This fund was established in 2014 and honors Louise (Humphrey) Van Gorder. Louise and her husband Bob have enriched the lives of thousands of students and music lovers through their Bristol String Orchestra and business, Fiddlin’ Around located in Bristol. A scholarship will be awarded annually to a music student currently in 9th through 12th grade to attend a one-week camp experience at Laurel Music Camp.

This fund was established in early 2023 by the Bristol Board of Education in collaboration with the Bristol Police Department following the tragic events of October 12, 2022 when both Lieutenant Dustin DeMonte and Sergeant Alex Hamzy were killed in the line of duty. Dustin and Alex are forever honored and remembered for their selfless service and commitment to the Bristol community.

Set up by the Main Street Community Foundation Board of Directors in 1997 as a combined scholarship fund to accept gifts from donors interested in pooling their money for scholarship purposes. The first gift to this fund came from the estate of Lucrezia Lena.
